Founded in 1871, the Turnverein Germania, later the Los Angeles Turners, began to establish themselves in the 1880’s more and more as an athletic and also cultural force in Los Angeles.  Friendships and friendly competition with like minded societies were fostered to the benefit of the clubs and the members.
